1. We are not the government

freegovernmentiphones.org is an independent informational website. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC), the Lifeline program, the Affordable Connectivity Program, any telecommunications provider, or any federal, state, tribal, or local government agency.

We do not process applications. We do not distribute phones or devices. We cannot approve, deny, check, expedite, or influence any application.

Applying for Lifeline is free. Applications are submitted directly through the National Verifier at nv.fcc.gov/lifeline or through a participating provider. Anyone who charges you a fee to apply, process, expedite, or guarantee a government benefit is running a scam. That includes anyone claiming to represent this site.

Any government agency names, program names, or company names used on this site are used for identification and description only. Their use does not imply any affiliation or endorsement in either direction.

2. What this site is for

This site provides general informational content about the Lifeline program and related topics. It is intended to help you understand a program and decide what to do — it is not a substitute for guidance from the agencies that run it.

It is not: legal advice, financial advice, an official statement of program rules, or a guarantee of eligibility, approval, benefit amount, or device.

Always confirm details with the official source linked on each page before acting on them. Where our page and a .gov source disagree, the .gov source is correct, and we’d be grateful if you’d tell us.

3. Accuracy, and its limits

We work hard at accuracy — our sourcing and verification rules are published in full in our editorial policy, and our mistakes are published in our correction log.

But you should understand what we can and can’t promise:

  • Program rules change, sometimes with little notice. Income limits update annually. Providers change device lineups without announcement. A page correct on its “Last verified” date may not be correct today.
  • Rules vary by state, and by tribal jurisdiction. We flag this where we know it applies, but we can’t cover every local variation in equal depth.
  • Device availability is not a promise. When we report that a provider lists a particular iPhone, that is a report of what they listed on a date — not a commitment that you will receive it, or that it will be new rather than refurbished.
  • Your individual circumstances matter in ways a general guide cannot account for.

The content on this site is provided “as is,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Advertisements displayed on this site are the content of the advertiser, not of this site. They have not been through our editorial verification process. We do not endorse advertised products or services.

About ads on this site

Be careful with any advertisement — here or anywhere — that asks for personal information, requests a payment for a government benefit, or promises a guaranteed device or approval. Nothing about the Lifeline application process requires payment. If you see an ad on this site making a false claim about a government program, please report it to us — we want it gone.

6. Your use of the site

You may read, print, and share pages from this site for personal, non-commercial use.

You may not:

  • Republish, scrape, or systematically copy content from this site for commercial purposes without written permission
  • Use content from this site to build or supplement a competing website, including via automated extraction

8. Content you send us

If you send us a correction, a tip, or an account of your experience, you grant us permission to use that information to improve the site. We won’t publish your correspondence or identify you without asking first — see the privacy policy.
